[five-minute read]
If there’s one thing that’s never changed about Oats Overnight, it’s our passion for providing the best possible breakfast for our customers. That obsession began with Brian, our founder, back when he ran the company out of his kitchen. And today, even though we’ve grown a lot since those humble beginnings, it’s still at the core of everything we do.
Sure, any company can say they’re committed to making the best *insert product* in the world, but the thing that sets us apart is how we do it. Because our process starts and ends with you, the customer.
You’re a Key Part of Everything.
Whether we’re brainstorming a new flavor or trying to make an existing recipe better, our first question is always the same: what do our customers want?
In some cases, we have data to lean on. For example, before we launch anything new, subscribers get an in-development version in their box every month. When they try it, they fill out a survey with their thoughts. We look at those results to decide what to do next. If it’s popular and the feedback is extremely positive, we might launch it for everyone to enjoy. If it needs work, our flavor dev team uses that feedback to make it better before we decide what to do next.
In other cases, we look for more anecdotal customer feedback. If you’re part of the Oats Overnight VIP group on Facebook, you might have noticed that Brian can’t stay away. He’s constantly reading through posts, jumping into conversations, and collecting ideas from our most passionate customers. And, yeah, we’ve even launched new flavors that were suggested in that group.
Every Food Company Changes Product. But Not Like Us.
When our product dev team isn’t busy coming up with something new, they’re looking at how we can make our current flavors better. You may have noticed some of that in the last couple of months (looking at you, Birthday Cake).
Food companies change their products all the time. Unfortunately, they often do it to cut costs. We like to do it a little differently. Whenever we change a recipe or update a formula, our only goal is to make it better.
Our product dev team doesn’t even look at cost when they update recipes. We truly set out to make the best-tasting flavors we can. And just because something is amazing as is, doesn’t mean it can’t be even better.
So how do we decide when to change a recipe? For starters, flavor science is constantly evolving, and sometimes that allows us to enhance an existing flavor. Brian and other members of the team are constantly taste testing flavors, and sometimes we catch things that we didn’t notice before. But it’s usually our customers who notice everything. And more often than not, we look to your feedback first, second, and last before we do anything.
